DAY 1 Kathmandu – Nyalam
The tour begins with an early morning drive to Kodari, the Nepali border post. If weather permits, there will be fine views of Langtang, Gauri Shanker, Melungtse and Khumbu Himal ranges. Depending on the road situation we walk or drive up to Zhang Mu where we clear Chinese
immigration. After the formalities we continue our journey through a beautiful gorge to Nyalam (3,800m), crossing the Himalayan range.
DAY 2 Nyalam – Lhatse
Our first stop on the Tibetan plateau will be on the 5,200m Lalung La pass from where there is a breathtaking view of the Himalayan range and Shisabangma, the highest peak in . Over lunch in Lao Tingri, you can see the peaks of Mt Everest (Qomolongma in Tibetan) and Cho Oyu. The journey today is long, but the spectacular Tibetan plateau will make you forget time. Lhatse altitude 4,000m.
DAY 3 Lhatse – Shigatse
A four-hour drive brings us to 's second largest city, Shigatse (3,800m). Here we visit Tashilumpo monastery, the seat of the Panchen Lama, and one of the most important monasteries in .
DAY 4 Shigatse – Gyantse
Stroll through the old city, then set off on the two and a half hour drive to Gyantse (3,900m). While approaching the small farming town you can clearly see the old fort that was captured by Younghusband during his 1904 raid into . Here the main attraction is the Kumbum monastery with its extraordinary architecture.
DAY 5 Gyantse – Lhasa
This is a long drive, but on the way you cross the Karo la with its beautiful glacier. You will see Yamdrok tso – the Turquoise Lake – and cross the Kamba la pass from where we descend to the main road which brings us all the way to Lhasa (3,650m).
